Rising tuition. Closed-door executive compensation deals. $900,000 salaries, golden parachutes and outrageous perks. Abuse of the Public Records Act. Violating workers' rights. A deteriorating educational system. Enough is enough!

California has an opportunity today to stop abuses by the Board of Regents of the University of California and powerful special interests, and to restore accountability to the finest public university system in the world. Help us take this opportunity by showing your support for these legislative initiatives that protect the UC from private interests:

  • SB 86, which prohibits pay-raises for top executives in years in which the UC or CSU budget does not receive an increase in state funding
  • SB 218, which strengthens the California Public Records Act by including any auxiliary organizations receiving public funds or performing government functions on state college campuses
  • SB 219, which ensures that all UC employees are given the same whistleblower protections as other state employees
  • SCA 21 and ACA 24, which allow California voters to decide whether the state should create a check on the Board of Regents through public oversight and, if necessary, legislative intervention

This legislation is opposed by the powerful Board of Regents, special interests and their spin machines. In order to pass these reforms your support is crucial.

Ask the Governor to
support SB 86, 218, and 219.

Senator Leland Yee has long been an advocate for improving California's public education system. He attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate, and knows the value of an affordable education. He has joined UC workers on the picket lines during contract negotiations, pressed legislative initiatives that give the UC the same level of transparency as other state agencies, and has passed bills that strengthen the free speech rights of college journalists and university employees.
